In order to characterize the 'El Rincón' (Buenos Aires prov., Argentina) spawning ground, adult fishes were caught with a bottom trawl net and ichthyoplankton samples obtained with a Nackthai net. Salinity and temperature were measured with a CTD. Samples and measurements were performed during the RV Eduardo Holmberg EH-03/08 scientific cruise carried out in November 2008. The region is characterized by the presence of an oceanographic front formed by waters diluted by the discharges of the Negro and Colorado rivers, high salinity waters originated in the San Matías Gulf and intermediate salinity continental shelf waters. The eggs and/or larvae identified corresponded to Argentine anchovy, Brazilian flathead, Argentine seabass, red porgy, leatherjack,... |

A new species, Hexamermis paranaense n. sp. (Nematoda, Mermithidae), a parasite of larvae of Diloboderus abderus Sturm, 1826 (Coleoptera, Scarabaeidae) is described and illustrated. This new species is characterized by amphids small, amphidial opening pocket-shaped, the anterior portion of the vagina muscularized and slightly protruding with a descending branch forming a loop before joining the uterus, and three rows of genital papillae: the ventrolateral divided in two rows with eight papillae in the outer row and with six papillae in the inner one; the ventral row with four pairs and one single preanal papillae, and with two pairs, a triplete, one pair, a single and one pair postanal papillae. |

The results of the identification of a small collection of Opiinae reared from Agromyzidae from Argentina are reported; six new species and one new genus (Lorenzopius gen. nov.; type species: Lorenzopius calycomyzae spec. nov.) are described. A checklist to the species of Opiinae known from Argentina is added. The following new combinations are proposed: Doryctobracon turicai (Turica & Mallo, 1961), Lorenzopius sanlorenzensis (Fischer, 1964), L. tubulatus (Fischer, 1979), Phaedrotoma agromyzophaga (Blanchard, 1940), P. alternantherae (Fischer, 1966), P. atomica (Fischer, 1962), P. brethesi (De Santis, 1967), P. curtinotum (Fischer, 1983) P. ebriops (Fischer, 1978), P. eunomia (Fischer, 1968), P. euterpe (Fischer, 1968), P. fissilis (Fischer, 1969) P.... |

This study provides an empirical analysis of the macroeconomic factors that can potentially affect investment decisions in Argentina in a short, medium and long run perspective. Both the theory and the empirical literature are reviewed in order to identify a private investment function for the last three decades (1970-2000). The results suggest that investment decisions seem to be determined, in the short run, by shocks in returns (exchange rate, trade liberalization) and in aggregate demand. Besides, there is evidence of a “crowding-out” effect of public investment. In the long run, the capital accumulation path seems to be closely dependent on both well-developed financial and credit markets and on perspectives of fiscal sustainability. |

Marine deposits of the Neuquén Basin of west-central Argentina (southern South America) are richly fossiliferous; its Mesozoic invertebrate faunas, represented mostly by molluscs, have been extensively studied since the nineteenth century. However, Early Cretaceous decapod crustaceans are far less known, although part of the systematic framework has been published (Aguirre-Urreta, 1989). The aim of the present note is to provide updated information based on ongoing research into the systematics and taphonomy of this crustacean group in the Neuquén Basin. |

Eight regions of native forests have been recognized in Argentina: Chaco forest, Misiones rain forest, Tucumán-Bolivia forest (Yunga), Andean-Patagonian forest, "Monte", "Espinal", fluvial forests of the Paraguay, Paraná and Uruguay rivers, and "Talares" in the Pampean region. We reviewed the available data concerning biodiversity of saprotrophic microfungi (anamorphic Ascomycota) in those native forests from Argentina, from the earliest collections, done by Spegazzini, to present. Among the above mentioned regions most studies on saprotrophic microfungi concentrates on the Andean-Patagonian forest, the fluvial forests of the Paraguay, Paraná and Uruguay rivers and the "Talares", in the Pampean region. There are only a few records of fungal species in... |
